THB: Hi Katlyn, I'm happy to be featuring your amazing series, The Life After, on The Happy Booker today! Can you please tell us a little about The Life After series?

KD: The series follows a Soul Collector, Maggie, through her after-life as a Collector pursuing her dream of becoming a part of the elite Guard.

THB: Did you have to do any type of research for this story?

KD:I didn’t have to do much research (which is what I love about this genre) but keeping true to the world I created is very important.

THB: When writing, are you more of a plotter or pantser? Does the story ever get away from you and end up going in a direction you weren't expecting?

KD: I am a plotter. I plot the bigger points in the story and actually allow the story to get away from me filling in all the gaps. I guess in a way I am both, but I can’t write a story without knowing the bigger plot points that drive the story.

THB: What, if anything, did you find more difficult in writing Soul Possessed compared to Soul Taken?

KD: With Soul Taken I wasn’t under any deadlines. Working with deadlines was my biggest challenge while still keeping up with the story.

THB: In what ways have your characters grown and changed from one book to the next?

KD: I think Maggie is starting to come into her own and Ally has definitely matured.

THB: What are a couple of your writing rituals or quirks?

KD: I listen to music while writing but when editing I listen to nature sounds. I found a pretty good 10 hour rainstorm that I am able to edit with so the distractions in my house are easier to ignore.

THB: Can you give us one of your favorite quotes or moments from this series?

KD: Even though it’s not exactly a happy moment, I like the mall scene in Soul Taken. It was definitely heart-pounding to write and I hope I can convey that feeling to my readers.

THB: What's next? Are you currently working on the 3rd book in The Life After series? Are you working on anything else?

KD: I am working on the 3^rd book in the series at the moment and I have another series in the very early stages of planning that I am excited about!

Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Even though she works full time in the medical field Katlyn has always made time for books, whether she is reading or writing them.
