Book Blogger Challenge Day 10

THB_thumb1_thumb_thumb

The Book Blogger Challenge is hosted by April at Good Books & Good Wine. Stop by her blog to sign up for this fun blogging challenge!!

Today's Challenge is: How Do You Choose What to Read Next?

It’s funny that so many of these posts make me see how truly unorganized, chaotic, and probably neurotic I really am.

I have no logical system for choosing what to read next. When I’m done with a book, I rate it, mark it as read on Goodreads before I begin the hunt for the next book to read. That is the one thing that is consistent, I must always have officially finished (or marked DNF) the previous book on Goodreads before starting a new book.

I’ll then go read reviews until something jumps out at me that I MUST read. If I already own it, awesome! If not, I start checking the library, friends, etc to borrow the book. If I can’t borrow it or request it from NetGalley, I’ll buy the ebook. I usually try to have at least 5 or 6 books that I want to read immediately so that if the first one fails to grab me, I have other options. I always have PLENTY of NetGalley books to choose from too.

Sometimes, a book will shout at me while I’m still reading another book and, depending on how much I’m enjoying the book I’m currently reading, I might put it down in favor of the next book. As long as I mark it in some way on Goodreads, I have no other self-imposed reading rules.

There’s not a lot of rhyme and reason to my methodologies. Even the method I described isn’t very consistent. Sometimes it just depends on my mood. Sometimes I will ONLY want to listen to audio books for a week straight. Sometimes I will ONLY want to read books on my Nook. I can be eclectic to the extreme in the way I do anything, which includes reading.

What about you? Do you have a secret book choosing ritual that I should adopt immediately?

I have an admitting very complex system of choosing a book, which I share in my post, because I want to be fair to every single book that I get. I want them all to have some possibility of being reviewed in a timely manner (which ALWAYS gets delayed). However, there's always the chance that I'll say "f-it" and just start a random book.

I like to read multiple books at once. For instance, I always have at least one paperback and one Kindle book that I'm currently reading. Sometimes I can't use my Kindle (like at the pool) and sometimes it's not convenient for me to read a paperback (like at night).

I like to add the books that I'm reading, which keeps me from adding too many books or starting too many books cause I hate how cluttered the widget looks on my blog when it gets to be more than 6...lol.

I love the idea of giving every book a fair shot at being read. I'm usually listening to at least one on audio and reading one on my Nook. I try to keep my "currently reading" to just 3 books or less. for the same reason.
Really Sam? I thought I was the only one who had to mark a book as "read' on Goodreads in order to move on to the next. I'm always so worried that I will lose track of what I have read which is what I love so much about Goodreads. I don't like to schedule what I'm reading, I enjoy reading mostly by mood.

I try not to grab too many netgalleys at once because then it makes me feel so under pressure to keep the stats at a good ratio! haha

I try not to grab too many netgalleys too, but I always fail. They keep emailing me with updates. lol I get distracted. I have managed to stay away from Edelweiss for now though. I wish I could request audiobooks through them, that would be convenient! AND I'd be even further behind.

I like floating! I get too overwhelmed with challenges and I am determined to keep my ARC commitments to a minimum and offer to host guest posts or other promotions instead of a review. I hope you do the Book Blogger Challenge, it was a lot of fun!
