Q: Today is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.
I don’t read many realistic war books such as the Revolutionary War or Vietnam or anything like that. I find most of them to be very technical and strategic and those kind of minute details bore me to death. However, in many of the fantasy novels I read as well as in the historical fiction novels I love, there is often wars being waged. My favorite of those would have to be George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones series where there are several self-proclaimed kings (and a queen) vying for the Iron Throne and the common people of Westeros are suffering for it. The world building in these novels are beyond incredible and this author is not afraid to throw major twists in the plot, such as killing off main characters by the handful right when the reader suspects nothing. It’s now a popular HBO series and if you haven’t read the books, you should definitely watch the series. It’s ALMOST as amazing as the book series with the added bonus of Khal Drogo!!! Yummy! Thanks for stopping by for the Feature & Follow! Be sure to comment so that I can stop by your blog and return the follow!
OMG I completely agree! I loved this book. I really really want to read her other books as well. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm following you back! And about the Blogging Things I Suck At, it's a one off post. Basically, I 'tag' people who I want to do the post. Then they do a post saying what they suck at and they 'tag' other people. The chain is meant to go on. You can leave comments on other blogs lettin them know you tag them. I tagged everyone which basically means I wan everyone to do it. I tag you! I really hope you can do the post and continue the chain. Thanks Donna!

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, despite all the hype, I've never watched or read "Game of Thrones" before. *ducks from flying tomatoes*. But I'm planning to, one day. New Follower via Bloglovin' and GFC.

I haven't read A Game of Thrones yet, but I might one day - that series was actually on my list of top ten most intimidating books this week :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my FF post earlier. I'm following you back via bloglovin'.
Great choice. I don't read too many actual war books either so mine were dystopian choices. I have a lot of fantasy favorites too. New bloglovin follower. Happy Friday!

Hi Donna!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Game of Thrones and Khal Drogo was one hunky alpha male. And you are so right-- the world building is out of this world-- no wonder why it takes the author so many years to write each one!
I am now following your blog as well :) Feel free to stop by mine and say hello! Always looking to chat with my fellow bloggers!
Best Wishes,

OH man you went there! I'm currently boycotting reading the SOIAF series until he freaking finishes! I do still buy them LOL but I'm not reading until he's done - its just insane having 5 year gaps between releases!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the series yet but I've had the first four books on my Kobo forever. And I don't want to watch the TV series without reading the books first or I'll never read the books, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteNew follower! :D

I don't read real life war type stuff either lol. I haven't read Game of Thrones but my sis has just offered to lend hers to me so I will be adding them to my extremely massive TBR list!

I agree, realistic book about war aren't my kind of read either. And ooooh, Khal Drogo... yummmm :D Cool pick!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I've heard such great things about The Game of Thrones. I haven't even seen the show or read the books yet though. :o I'm a GFC follower!
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
I absolutely love the series, both in book and on HBO. Some things on the HBO series are a bit different from the book but oddly enough, they work without the differences bothering me at all which is unusual.
ReplyDeleteIsn't he just delicious!!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely do so sometime.
ReplyDeleteHe is definitely quite delicious! You should watch the show for him alone! Plus it will make you want to read the books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Jenna! I love the show almost as much as the books. Jason Momoa as Drogo was quite an incentive to watch!
ReplyDeleteActually, if you watch the first few episodes, it might make you want to read the series. I prefer them on audio actually but they are VERY long listens.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that Pabkins! I almost wish I would have waited. I will say that each book has a fairly satisfying ending so you're not waiting 5+ years on a cliffhanger ending. I'm not convinced he will finish the series in my lifetime. My kids will have to communicate the outcome to me via Ouija.
ReplyDeleteI guess it can be a good thing that Martin doesn't force himself to churn out books but does it slowly so that each one is perfected. And yes, Drogo was wonderfully cast!
ReplyDeleteThese are definitely worth reading. You won't regret it!
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are quite amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt's an incredible series, definitely worth reading.
ReplyDeleteFunny that I didn't even think of choosing a dystopian. I considered The Book Thief and Shades of Gray (Ruta Sepetys) since both are such emotionally powerful reads that take place during a time of war, but I went w/ ASOIAF simply because I love them so much (and so I could post that delicious pic of Jason Momoa as Drogo!)
ReplyDeleteThey are quite long, it's true. But the story is so compelling and well written that you'll fly through them, I promise!
ReplyDeleteMany people haven't read this series. If you enjoy audio, the narration is wonderful as well.
ReplyDeleteAnnette, all that you've heard is true. One of the best things about this series is how Martin is unafraid to throw his characters in harms way. The reader is never certain that their favorite character will survive! It makes it very intense.
ReplyDeleteI love this series too!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, yes!! xDDD
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading GoT! Great FF post!
ReplyDelete-Scott Reads It!
I have promised a friend of mine to read Harry Potter before I start another huge series... but I will get to A Game of Thrones as well :)

Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
It's a crazy good series! It may be intimidating because of how big the books are, but once you're lost inside that world, the pages fly by!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashtyn! You should definitely at least watch the first couple episodes of the series, if they don't hook you or make you want to read the books, well... I don't know! lol
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few changes in the series but none that take anything away from the book, actually, I like some of the things that have been done differently in the series. And yes, he is definitely a vision!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina! I hope you love this series as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteThanks Aliaa, I'm following you as well.
ReplyDeleteIt can be intimidating by how big the book is but once you're lost in the story, you won't even notice as the pages fly by!
ReplyDeleteThanks Scott! I hope you love it as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteI bet they do.... but it's finding the time for them! lol I feel like I am crazy busy all the time!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I don't really read many war books, they're not really my thing. Fantasy wars are much more interesting! :D
